Dissolved oxygen is crucial for metabolism, growth, and other complex physiological and pathological processes; however, standard physiological models (such as organ-on-chip systems) often use ambient oxygen levels, which do not reflect the lower levels that are typically found . Additionally, the local generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS; a key factor in physiological systems) is often overlooked in biology-mimicking models. Here, we present a microfluidic system that integrates electrochemical dissolved oxygen sensors with lab-on-a-chip technology to monitor the physiological oxygen concentrations and generate hydrogen peroxide (HO; a specific ROS).

A previous open-label trial with oxaloacetate supplementation demonstrated a significant reduction in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS)-related fatigue.
Methods: In this follow-up trial, 82 ME/CFS subjects were enrolled in a 3-month randomized, double-blinded, controlled study, receiving either 2,000 mg of oxaloacetate or control per day.
Pediatric donors are underutilized for simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation due to concerns about technical complications and inadequate islet and/or renal mass. We analyzed our experience with simultaneous en bloc kidney and pancreas transplantation using pediatric donors on 8 consecutive adult patients from 1997-2018. En bloc kidney transplants were implanted intraperitoneally and contralaterally to right-sided pancreas grafts.

We were interested to understand how real-world treatment of IMC cases compares to management of HGD and T1 colorectal cancer (CRC).
Methods: A multicenter cohort study was conducted.
Late-onset sepsis (LOS) in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) causes significant morbidity and mortality, yet guidance on empiric management is limited. We surveyed NICUs across Canada and the United States regarding their empiric antimicrobial regimens for LOS, thereby identifying large practice variations and high rates of empiric vancomycin use.
