It has been demonstrated in preclinical research that the administration of microbubbles with ultrasound can augment the proapoptotic sphingolipid pathway and enhance chemotherapy or radiation therapy-induced vascular endothelial disruption resulting in enhanced tumor cell death. Specifically, ultrasound-stimulated microbubbles (USMB) can increase blood vessel permeability facilitating the release of therapeutic substances in the target area. USMB can also serve as a potential radiation enhancing therapy as USMB exposure increases tumor cell death significantly as observed in preclinical models.

Malignant duodenal obstruction is a common issue affecting up to 20% of patients with advanced gastrointestinal malignancies. Distal duodenal obstruction (DDO) poses unique surgical challenges, such as the need to drain the stomach and the proximal portions of the duodenum. The traditional approach, gastrojejunostomy, may not be as effective for relieving DDO, as gastrojejunostomy does not necessarily drain the duodenum.

Complex biological features such as the human microbiome and gene expressions play a crucial role in human health by mediating various biomedical processes that influence disease progression, such as immune responses and metabolic processes. Understanding these mediation roles is essential for gaining insights into disease pathogenesis and improving treatment outcomes. However, analyzing such high-dimensional mediation features presents challenges due to their inherent structural and correlations, such as the hierarchical taxonomic structures in microbial operational taxonomic units (OTUs), gene-pathway relationships, and the high dimensionality of the datasets, which complicates mediation analysis.
