Objective: To determine whether tooth loss relates to patient experiences of masticatory or aesthetic problems and is a useful measure of oral health and treatment needs and to compare experiences of tooth loss among middle-aged and older Danes.
Basic Research Design: Cross sectional online- and telephone interview questionnaire study.
Participants: 1,060 Danish citizens aged 40 years or older.

Material And Methods: The study group comprised 1935 pregnant women living in two areas of Denmark consecutively recruited from August 1998 to March 1999. The survey data were based on telephone interviews.

In order to establish a set of epidermal species markers, normal human skin, murine skin and human skin transplanted to nude mice were stained with monoclonal antibodies directed to cell membrane-bound carbohydrates, a basement membrane component and a structure in the cell nucleus. Three epidermal species markers were identified. Two markers stained exclusively human epidermis: LH7.

Using a panel of monoclonal antibodies with well-defined carbohydrate specificities we have studied the expression of biosynthetically related antigens in normal and psoriatic skin.
