The effects of dietary supplementation of creatine and guanidinoacetic acid (GDA) have been studied to a limited extent in various fish species including red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) and hybrid striped bass (HBS) (Morone saxatilis x M. chrysops). However, in HSB, there is a need to better understand the impact of creatine and GDA supplementation at elevated salinity which may be encountered by this euryhaline fish.

Patients presenting to rural emergency departments with increased intracranial pressure (ICP) can be challenging to diagnose, manage, and treat and although the presentation is rare, it is associated with high morbidity and mortality. In areas such as Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, where the majority of the province is located far from tertiary care, this problem can be compounded by adverse weather impeding transport, necessitating that the problem is handled by rural physicians instead of neurosurgical care. However, many rural medical personnel do not receive any formal training in treating increased ICP.

Extracellular measurement of uptake/release kinetics and associated concentration dependencies provides mechanistic insight into the underlying biochemical processes. Due to the recognized importance of preserving the natural diffusion processes within the local microenvironment, measurement approaches which provide uptake rate and local surface concentration of adherent cells in static media are needed. This paper reports a microelectrode array device and a methodology to measure uptake kinetics as a function of cell surface concentration in adherent 2D cell cultures in static fluids.
