Article Synopsis
  • Researchers identified and categorized anthropogenic particles in Osaka Bay using microscopy and spectroscopy, finding a total of 565.1 particles.
  • Only 22.4% of these were plastic, with seasonal variations in microplastic abundance (8.9 to 22.8 particles/L from May to July).
  • The main types of microplastics detected were fragmented fibers and included polymers like polypropylene, polyester, and polyethylene, with higher concentrations found offshore, likely due to local river runoff and marine activities.

Superior mesenteric artery syndrome (SMAS) is a rare and unusual disease, suspected clinically and confirmed radiologically. It represents a duodenal obstruction secondary to the impingement of the third portion of the duodenum between the abdominal aorta (AA) and the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) due to decreased intraabdominal fat. High morbidity and mortality rates are linked to missed or late diagnosis that can lead to complications, such as gastric perforation and gastric hemorrhage.

Methods: We used a mixed-method design.
