Article Synopsis
  • Pericardial haemangiomas are rare benign heart tumors that can be difficult to diagnose, traditionally requiring surgery or biopsy for confirmation.
  • Recent advancements in cardiac MRI allow for non-invasive tumor characterization, improving diagnostic accuracy through enhanced imaging techniques.
  • In a specific case, a pericardial mass was identified as a haemangioma incidentally found with a brain glioma, leading to successful conservative management over two years, suggesting potential for similar approaches in other patients.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, all US states provided emergency allotments (EA) to enrollees of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to alleviate rising food insecurity. However, 18 states opted out of the SNAP-EA program before its official expiration in February 2023. Using a staggered difference-in-differences model to account for state-level variation in the timing of the SNAP-EA opt-out decisions, we analyzed SNAP and SNAP-EA data from the US Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service to quantify the impact of state opt-out decisions on SNAP benefit size and enrollment.

Swine influenza A virus (IAV-S) is a highly prevalent and transmissible pathogen infecting worldwide swine populations. Our previous work has shown that the computationally derived vaccine platform, Epigraph, can induce broadly cross-reactive and durable immunity against H3 IAV-S in mice and swine. Therefore, in this study, we assess the immunogenicity and protective efficacy of the Epigraph vaccine at increasingly lower doses to determine the minimum dose required to maintain protective immunity against three genetically divergent H3 IAV-S.

Neurogenesis and gliogenesis continue in the Ventricular-Subventricular Zone (V-SVZ) of the adult rodent brain. B1 cells are astroglial cells derived from radial glia that function as primary progenitors or neural stem cells (NSCs) in the V-SVZ. B1 cells, which have a small apical contact with the ventricle, decline in numbers during early postnatal life, yet neurogenesis continues into adulthood.

Article Synopsis
  • Fish oils are highly popular supplements known for their potential health benefits, particularly in promoting collagen production and musculoskeletal health, but the effects of different types of fats are still unclear.
  • In a study, omega-3 fatty acids (EPA) did not significantly change the function or collagen content of engineered human ligaments, while saturated fatty acids (palmitic acid) significantly decreased both.
  • Mice fed a high-lard diet showed increased body weight but decreased muscle, tendon, and bone collagen, indicating saturated fatty acids negatively impact collagen synthesis and tissue strength over time.
