Subcutaneous phaeohyphomycosis is caused by traumatic implantation of melanized environmental fungi. The majority of cases occur in tropical areas of the world or are associated with travel from these regions. Herein, we describe a rare case of subcutaneous phaeohyphomycosis caused by in an immunocompetent Somalia-born patient.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe COVID-19 pandemic forced an unprecedented shift to remote instruction across higher education, reducing access to critically important undergraduate research experience and potentially magnifying inequities faced by first-generation and underrepresented minority (URM) students in higher education. Through a novel course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) at UCLA, delivered completely online, results of a unique, student-generated survey showed that the transition to remote learning was challenging for all students, increasing student workload, decreasing ability to focus on school, and limiting their ability to succeed. However, results showed significant disparities in remote learning that disproportionately impacted URM and first-generation students.

In this study, we sought to determine the incidence of HAdV infection among pediatric HCT recipients in the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing era, identify risk factors for viremia among patients undergoing HAdV surveillance, and assess the effectiveness of preemptive cidofovir.
Methods: A single-center retrospective cohort of patients who underwent a transplant within a 10-year period was assembled.
