Contemporary management of small renal tumors.

The incidence of kidney cancer in the United States is rising because the increased use of cross-sectional imaging is resulting in more tumors being detected and because the population is aging. In addition, a stage migration in kidney cancer has been observed—again because of improved detection—with an increase in stage T1 tumors and a concomitant decrease in the number of stage T2 to T4 tumors. Recent studies have shown that up to 80% of small renal tumors (SRTs) either have an indolent course or are histologically benign.

Indications for inferior vena cava filter placement: do physicians comply with guidelines?

Purpose: Inferior vena cava (IVC) filter placement has increased significantly over the past few decades, but indications for filter placement vary widely depending on which professional society recommendations are followed, and it is uncertain how compliant physicians are in adhering to guidelines. This study assessed documented indications for IVC filter placement and evaluated compliance with standards set by the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) and the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR).

Thrombin injection of a pancreaticoduodenal artery pseudoaneurysm after failed attempts at transcatheter embolization.

We describe a case of a pseudoaneurysm of the pancreaticoduodenal artery in a patient with history of cholecystectomy and chronic pancreatitis. Attempts at transcatheter coil embolotherapy failed because of vessel tortuosity. The lesion was then successfully treated by computed tomography-guided direct percutaneous injection of thrombin into the pseudoaneurysm.

Exercise-induced ventricular tachycardia associated with coronary arteriovenous fistula and correction by transcatheter coil embolization.

Exercise-induced ventricular tachycardia is a well-described arrhythmia most commonly associated with atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. The case reported here presents its association with a coronary arteriovenous fistula, which has not been previously reported in the literature.

Wallstent migration following deployment in right and left bile ducts.

The Wallstent biliary endoprosthesis has recently been approved for treatment of malignant bile duct obstruction. Although minor changes in position have occurred, migration of these stents has been uncommon. The authors report a case in which migration occurred when stents were simultaneously deployed in the right and left bile ducts.
