Integrin_K Channel_Complexes (IKCs), are implicated in neurodevelopment and cause developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE) through mechanisms that were poorly understood. Here, we investigate the function of neocortical IKCs formed by voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels Kcnb1 and α5β5 integrin dimers in wild-type (WT) and homozygous knock-in (KI) Kcnb1 mouse model of DEE. Kcnb1 mice suffer from severe cognitive deficit and compulsive behavior.

The aim of this study is to investigate how smoking is associated with contracting any infection and pneumonia and death.
Method And Findings: Participants were drawn from the population-based Cohort of Swedish Men and the Swedish Mammography Cohort, which are representative of the Swedish population.
The inspired sinewave technique (IST) is a non-invasive method to measure lung heterogeneity indices (including both uneven ventilation and perfusion or heterogeneity), which reveal multiple conditions of the lung and lung injury. To evaluate the reproducibility and predicted clinical outcomes of IST heterogeneity values, a comparison with a quantitative lung computed tomography (CT) scan is performed. Six anaesthetised pigs were studied after surfactant depletion by saline-lavage.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTandem occlusions of the anterior circulation refer to the simultaneous presence of a cervical carotid artery occlusion or high-grade stenosis and an ipsilateral large vessel occlusion involving the intracranial internal carotid artery, M1 or proximal M2 middle cerebral artery. Whilst carotid occlusion usually results from progressive atherosclerotic disease, in younger individuals it may arise secondary to a dissection for which there are multiple aetiologies, with trauma being an important cause in patients having a relevant history. We present a rare case of traumatic left common carotid artery dissection in a young professional Jiu-Jitsu fighter presenting with delayed stroke symptoms and angiographic findings of a tandem occlusion.
