Single-erythrocyte hemoglobin values have been obtained in 55 women with normal and gestosis-complicated pregnancies, and total hemoglobin and hematocrit have been followed up in the third trimester in 49 of them. It was found out that gestosis reduced hemoglobin levels and caused erythrocyte redistribution toward a higher proportion of "light" cells as early as in the first trimester. These findings suggest that total hemoglobin level has a low diagnostic value in gestosis.
