Meeting global commitments to conservation, climate, and sustainable development requires consideration of synergies and tradeoffs among targets. We evaluate the spatial congruence of ecosystems providing globally high levels of nature's contributions to people, biodiversity, and areas with high development potential across several sectors. We find that conserving approximately half of global land area through protection or sustainable management could provide 90% of the current levels of ten of nature's contributions to people and meet minimum representation targets for 26,709 terrestrial vertebrate species.

Measles virus genotype B3 coding-complete genome sequence from a 2019 case showed a novel mutation in the phosphoprotein (P) gene that abrogates the established stop codon. A downstream stop codon has been identified, resulting in a putative P that would be 19 amino acids longer than wild type.

Very high frequency (VHF) radio tracking technology deployed on terrestrial vertebrates has been well utilized in ecology without much evolution since the 1960s. With the advent of multi-species rewilding projects, and the new field of reintroduction biology, there has been an increase in requirements for telemetry systems to monitor survival and mortality for many animals simultaneously. Common, pulsed VHF can only monitor one individual on each radio frequency, and the number of individuals monitored is constrained by the amount of time spent on each frequency to facilitate a detection and the number of receivers.

Hierarchical genotyping approaches can provide insights into the source, geography and temporal distribution of bacterial pathogens. Multiple hierarchical SNP genotyping schemes have previously been developed so that new isolates can rapidly be placed within pre-computed population structures, without the need to rebuild phylogenetic trees for the entire dataset. This classification approach has, however, seen limited uptake in routine public health settings due to analytical complexity and the lack of standardized tools that provide clear and easy ways to interpret results.
