Posterior dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint is a rare but serious and life-threatening injury. Case reports describing injury to mediastinal structures including the trachea, esophagus, and the great vessels from posterior displacement of the medial clavicle (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) have been discussed in the literature. It is important that radiologists are aware of the limitation of plain radiographs in detecting posterior SCJ dislocation and and that they carefully evaluate the soft tissues with CT imaging to exclude mediastinal injury.

Percutaneous dilation of benign biliary strictures.

Percutaneous balloon dilation of benign biliary strictures was successful in 15 of 18 patients in whom the procedure was attempted. Successful dilation was achieved in nine of 11 patients who had biliary enteric strictures, with follow-up of 22-55 months (mean, 35.4 months) after catheter removal in seven patients.

Computed tomography (CT) is a widely accepted modality for the detection, localization, and potential therapeutic drainage of abdominal abscesses. The CT demonstration of extraluminal gas within the abdomen usually signifies the presence of an abscess. We report two cases of nonpurulent spontaneous tissue necrosis which simulated a gas containing abscess on CT.

Computed tomography in the detection of abdominal metastases from malignant melanoma.

Malignant melanoma is an unpredictable and often virulent cutaneous malignancy. Although computed tomography is the most sensitive method for detection of intrathoracic metastases, its value in the assessment of abdominal spread has not been fully defined. We evaluated the sites of CT-identified metastases in 70 patients with pathologically confirmed malignant melanoma.
