Perioperative hypothermia in NICU infants: its occurrence and impact on infant outcomes.

Infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) often require surgical intervention and maintaining normothermia perioperatively is a major concern. In our preliminary study of 31 normothermic infants undergoing operative procedures in the operating room (OR), 58% (N = 18) returned hypothermic while all 5 undergoing procedures in the NICU remained normothermic (P = .001).

Impact of radiological technologists on the outcome of shock wave lithotripsy.

Objective: To evaluate the correlation of radiological technologists (RTs) and the outcome of shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) in terms of fluoroscopy time, fragmentation rate, and stone-free rate.

Material And Methods: A retrospective review of a prospectively collected database of 601 SWL treatments between June 2009 and March 2010 was performed. Patients with radiolucent stones were excluded.

Objectives: To calculate the efficiency quotient (EQ) of the latest mobile Storz Modulith SLX-F2 lithotripter and to identify the factors determining the stone-free rate.

Methods: A retrospective review of a prospectively collected database of the first consecutive 533 patients undergoing shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) from June 2009 to February 2010 was performed. A total of 16 patients with radiolucent stones and 43 patients with incomplete follow-up were excluded.

Incidence and propagation of infrageniculate deep venous thrombosis in trauma patients.

Background: The incidence and propagation of thrombosis involving vessels distal to the popliteal vein has not been clearly defined in trauma patients. Our aim was to determine the incidence and rate of propagation of infrageniculate deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in a trauma population and identify potential risk factors specific to propagation.
