Background: The long-term effects of early left ventricular unloading after venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) remain unclear.

Methods: The EARLY-UNLOAD trial was a single-center, investigator-initiated, open-label, randomized clinical trial involving 116 patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) undergoing VA-ECMO. The patients were randomly assigned to undergo either early routine left ventricular unloading by transseptal left atrial cannulation within 12 hours after randomization or the conventional approach, which permitted rescue transseptal cannulation in case of an increased left ventricular afterload.

Background: The distinction between culture-positive sepsis and culture-negative sepsis regarding clinical characteristics and outcomes remains contentious. We aimed to elucidate these differences using large-scale nationwide data.

Methods: This prospective cohort study analyzed data from the Korean Sepsis Alliance registry, comprising 21 intensive care units (ICUs) across 20 hospitals from September 2019 to December 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • * Structural analysis showed that IDPs maintained their overall structure in DO, but increased hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions in DO helped stabilize β-sheet fibrils.
  • * The results suggest that the unique properties of DO need to be considered in research involving protein interactions, as they significantly influence the structural and kinetic properties of proteins.

Article Synopsis
  • * Results showed that during the first week, STEMI patients had a significantly higher mortality rate (4.62%) compared to NSTEMI patients (1.79%), but this trend reversed after the second week for men and the tenth week for women.
  • * The research highlights the need for further studies to develop advanced risk prediction models based on time-point mortality outcomes, as different baseline variables influenced mortality rates over time.

Transparent heaters are gaining significant attention for applications such as antifog glass, smart windows, and smart farm greenhouses. A transparent heater basically consists of transparent conducting materials that serve as a heating area and contact pad electrode to apply power. To fabricate a transparent heater, materials with excellent light transmittance and low sheet resistance are required.
