Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the levels of antibodies against diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus in pregnant women at two maternity hospitals in Athens from 2017 to 2019, revealing low seropositivity rates, particularly for diphtheria and pertussis.
  • The analysis involved 253 blood samples, showing 57.7% seropositivity for diphtheria, 12.5% for pertussis, and 92.7% for tetanus, with better outcomes seen in older and more educated women.
  • Less than 2% of participants reported receiving the recommended Tdap vaccination during pregnancy, indicating a gap in vaccination adherence and suggesting the need for national awareness campaigns to

Article Synopsis
  • Antibody levels decline after acute COVID-19, but children maintain humoral memory, with factors like disease severity influencing these antibody responses.
  • A study of 65 unvaccinated children hospitalized with COVID-19 showed high seropositivity rates at 3, 6, and 12 months post-infection, with a notable decline in IgG levels over time.
  • The findings indicate that while disease severity impacts antibody levels, age does not, and children can persistently produce detectable IgG levels up to a year after infection.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal tract characterized in many patients by extraintestinal manifestations. Pediatric chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, as well as kidney transplant patients, are at an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease. BNP measurement, as a biomarker of cardiovascular risk, has been recommended to this high-risk population. Plasma BNP levels were measured in 56 CKD children in either pre-dialysis stage, hemodialysis (HD) or renal transplant recipients (RTRs) and in 76 sex- and age-matched healthy controls.
