Tele-3-dimensional computer-assisted functional endoscopic sinus surgery: new dimension in the surgery of the nose and paranasal sinuses.

One of the main objectives of our 3-dimensional (3D) computer-assisted functional endoscopic sinus surgery was to design a computer-assisted 3D approach to the presurgical planning, intraoperative guidance, and postoperative analysis of the anatomic regions of the nose and paranasal sinuses. Such an extremely powerful approach should allow better insight into the operating field, thereby significantly increasing the safety of the procedure. The last step to implementing the technology in the operating room was to connect the computer workstations and video equipment to remote locations by using a high-speed, wide-bandwidth computer network.

The effects of caloric vestibular stimulation on EEGs in patients with central vertigo.

The EEGs of 30 patients with central vertigo were examined by caloric vestibular stimulation (CVS). The control group consisted of 30 persons without vertigo disturbances. In the standard procedure (and after hyperventilation), there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups of patients.

Transcranial Doppler sonography in patients with Meniére's disease.

The aim of the study was to assess the correlation between pathologic vertebrobasilar (VB) findings obtained by the method of transcranial Doppler (TCD) sonography and hearing disorders in Meniere's disease patients. The manifestations of Meniere's disease were analyzed in 65 patients and correlated with transcranial Doppler of vertebrobasilar circulation. Control group consisted of 50 patients with cardiovascular dysfunction who had no hearing loss, tinnitus or vertigo, who were submitted to TCD examination.
