Gallic acid and its metal complexes are good antioxidants that could be used to increase the body's immune system against degenerative and viral diseases. Therefore, such complexes could be used as a good alternative to supplementary medicines and may have potential significance in clinical trials. Differential pulse voltammetry, UV/VIS spectroscopy, and potentiometry were used to analyse the complexation of gallic acid with calcium in this study.

As a part of our continuous efforts in the study of supramolecular chemistry, we have prepared three novel aromatic alcohols (1,2-bis[2-(hydroxymethyl)phenoxy]butylene (), 1,2-bis[2-(hydroxymethyl)phenoxy]pentylene () and 1,2-bis[2-(hydroxymethyl)phenoxy]hexylene ()) and determined their crystal and molecular structures by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In all compounds, two benzyl alcohol groups are linked by an aliphatic chain of different lengths (CH); = , and .

The authors retrospectively analyse 457 inguinal and femural hernioplasties with synthetic prosthesis materials, during a period of 10 years. There have been discussions going on about the prosthesis utilisation indications (advanced stages, complex inguinal hernia), type of prosthesis that has been used, the modalities of inserting a prosthesis and the surgical techniques employed. In 164 (34%) of the operations the mesh has been used as an reinforcement and 293 (64%) of the interventions were "tension-free" operations.
