Background: Rectocele and intussusception are frequently observed during defecography as potential contributors to obstructed defecation syndrome (ODS). We aimed to describe our initial experience with transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) mucosectomy with muscular plication, as a novel surgical approach to treat patients with ODS.
Methods: Conducted between August 2021 and October 2023 at the Medical University of Vienna, 11 patients (8 female) were prospectively enrolled and underwent TAMIS mucosectomy with circular mucosectomy and longitudinal muscular plication (internal Delorme's procedure).
Aim: Ventral mesh rectopexy (VMR) is an established surgical treatment for rectal prolapse and outlet obstruction. In contrast to continental Europe, in the UK and US the use of synthetic mesh has been abandoned in favour of biologic mesh, due to concerns regarding mesh related morbidity. The current study investigated if either material is superior, in terms of clinical recurrence and mesh related complications.

This study assessed IM and ID following the Sphinkeeper procedure and its correlation with physical activity. This was a prospective observational clinical study of ten patients undergoing Sphinkeeper operation due to FI between August 2020 and November 2020 at the Medical University of Vienna.
