The blood-brain barrier (BBB) controls the movement of molecules into and out of the central nervous system (CNS). Since a functional BBB forms by mouse embryonic day E15.5, we reasoned that gene cohorts expressed in CNS endothelial cells (EC) at E13.

The IUCN classifies two-endemic fishes of the Western Ghats in Peninsular India: Nilgiri mystus Hemibagrus punctatus is critically endangered, and Yellow catfish Horabagrus brachysoma is vulnerable. These are threatened by habitat degradation, excess fishing, and dam construction. ICAR-NBFGR, the premier research organisation in India for fish conservation, aims to conserve these two species through captive propagation, stock identification, and stock-specific ranching programs.

Near-infrared (NIR) spectral-responsive multitasking chemical systems are always advantageous in biological and environmental systems. Although ruthenium complexes are highly attractive compounds for many applications, studies on NIR optical responsive sensors are very limited because of their synthetic difficulties. The sensing of fluoride and cyanide ions using ruthenium nitrosyl complexes is not known.

Article Synopsis
  • Impaired blood flow in the brain due to blood vessel constriction and microthrombi can lead to delayed cerebral ischemia following a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).
  • The overexpression of 12/15-Lipooxygenase (12/15-LOX) is linked to poor early brain injury outcomes, and the study investigates its role in delayed effects after SAH.
  • Results show that inhibiting 12/15-LOX improves brain perfusion and reduces negative outcomes like microvessel constriction and platelet activation, suggesting it could be a key target for treatment after SAH.
