Background/objectives: Mucin-1 (MUC1) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is overexpressed and hypoglycosylated in premalignant and malignant epithelial cells compared to normal cells, creating a target antigen for humoral and cellular immunity. Healthy individuals with a history of advanced colonic adenomas and at high risk for colon cancer were enrolled in a clinical trial to evaluate the feasibility of using a MUC1 peptide vaccine to prevent colon cancer. Anti-MUC1 antibodies elicited by this vaccine were cloned using peripheral blood B cells and sera collected two weeks after a one-year booster.

Objectives: To improve health and safety outcomes at mass gathering events (MGEs) for young attendees, it is essential to understand the psychosocial factors that may influence behaviour so that the implementation of support strategies before, during and after MGEs can be developed to enhance outcomes. This review identifies the psychosocial outcomes that may occur at MGEs, including social connection, substance use, risky behaviours and psychological distress and examines what interventions have been implemented to target these outcomes.

Background: Mass-gathering events (MGEs) occur regularly throughout the world. As people congregate at MGEs, there is an increased risk of transmission of communicable diseases. Novel respiratory viruses, such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-1 (SARS-CoV-1), Influenza A Virus Subtype H1N1 Strain 2009 (H1N1pdm09), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV), and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), or Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), may require specific infection prevention and control strategies to minimize the risk of transmission when planning MGEs.
