Objective: Surgical administrative chief residents (ACRs) play essential roles in residency training programs, including resident advocates, conflict negotiators, and scheduling managers. Despite their varied and important jobs, surgical ACRs receive very little training or introduction to the role.

Design: We describe here the creation and implementation of an Administrative Chief Resident Workshop developed for the Association of Program Directors in Surgery (APDS) to familiarize chief residents with their roles in scheduling and conflict negotiation.

Vasopressin (VP) activates protein kinase A (PKA), resulting in phosphorylation events and membrane accumulation of aquaporin-2 (AQP2). Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibition with erlotinib also induces AQP2 membrane trafficking with a phosphorylation pattern similar to VP, but without increasing PKA activity. Here, we identify the ribosomal s6 kinase (RSK) as a major mediator phosphorylating AQP2 in this novel, erlotinib-induced pathway.

Background: A ground glass nodule (GGN) is a radiologically descriptive term for a lung parenchymal area with increased attenuation and preserved bronchial and vascular structures. GGNs are further divided into pure versus subsolid lesions. The differential diagnosis for GGNs is wide and contains a malignant possibility for a lung adenocarcinoma precursor or tumor.

Article Synopsis
  • Lung cancer is a serious disease with unique challenges, especially in patients diagnosed with resectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
  • A study from January 2022 to August 2023 involved 56 patients (mostly smokers and male) who received neoadjuvant chemo-immunotherapy before surgery, with 80% in stage III.
  • Results showed 86% of patients had a positive response to treatment, and 61% had significant pathological improvements, highlighting the effectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitors in treating NSCLC before surgery.

Introduction: Neutrophils play a dichotomous role in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), providing protection and potentially causing damage. Existing research on neutrophil function in CAP relies on animal studies, leaving a gap in patient-centered investigations.

Methods: We used mass spectrometry to characterize the neutrophil proteome of moderately ill CAP patients at general ward admission and related the proteome to controls and clinical outcomes.
