Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoea, and Trichomonas vaginalis infections among pregnant women and male partners in Dutch midwifery practices: prevalence, risk factors, and perinatal outcomes.

Background: Antenatal screening for HIV, syphilis and HBV has been successfully implemented in The Netherlands, but data on other STI among pregnant women or male partners are limited. Our objectives: (i) to assess the prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) and Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) among pregnant women and male partners, (ii) to identify risk factors for these STI during pregnancy, and (iii) to identify adverse perinatal outcomes (APO) associated with STI.

Propagandizing anti-vaccination: Analysis of Vaccines Revealed documentary series.

Politically charged health propaganda films may have public health ramifications through decreased vaccination uptake, especially with expansive dissemination potential on social media. The nine-episode documentary series Vaccines Revealed, touted as foremost truth within the largest anti-vaccination closed Facebook group, advocates for non-medical childhood vaccination exemptions - a policy actively opposed by the American Academy of Pediatrics. This series is recommended specifically to parents who are on the fence about whether or not to vaccinate their children as well as new, first-time, and expectant mothers.

The Role of Stigma Management in HIV Treatment Adherence.

Social stigma is linked to improper HIV treatment adherence, but how stigma impairs adherence outcomes is poorly understood. This study included 93 people living with HIV in the United States who participated in focus groups or one-on-one interviews regarding how stigma might affect medication management. Latent content analysis and constant comparative techniques of participant responses that were produced three thematic groupings that described how participants (a) orient to HIV stigma, (b) manage HIV stigma in ways that directly impair treatment adherence, and (c) manage HIV stigma in ways that may indirectly impair adherence.

Face-to-Face Versus Online Behavioral Parent Training for Young Children at Risk for ADHD: Treatment Engagement and Outcomes.

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is associated with significant challenges in child functioning. Although behavioral parent training (BPT) can reduce ADHD symptoms, factors associated with traditional face-to-face (F2F) delivery results in only about half of families receiving BPT. The purpose of this pilot randomized controlled trial was to examine parent engagement and program acceptability of F2F and online BPT, as well as the efficacy of both formats relative to a waitlist control (WLC) group.

Overexpression of miR-595 and miR-1246 in the sera of patients with active forms of inflammatory bowel disease.

Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are dysregulated in the inflammatory bowel diseases, Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), which arise due to dysfunctional host-microbe interactions and impairment of the barrier function of the intestine. Here, we sought to determine whether circulating miRNAs are biomarkers of active colonic CD and UC and can provide insights into disease pathogenesis. Comparison was made with serum miRNAs in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
