Uncovering the cognitive bases of egg rejection behavior in avian hosts of brood parasites carries significant comparative implications not only for our understanding of host-parasite coevolution but also for cross-species research aimed at assessing decision-making. In this study, we focused on the American robin (), a species that lays large, elongated, and immaculate blue eggs and is well studied for its robust rejection of smaller, rounder, white, and maculated eggs laid by the brood parasitic brown-headed cowbird (). Employing a randomized multiple simultaneous parasitism paradigm, we experimentally investigated how model egg color, dimensions, and maculation influenced the rejection rates of eight distinct egg types across 28 different pairings of two eggs at a time.

Background: The REpeated ASSEssment of SurvivorS (REASSESS) study will conduct long-term cognitive, functional and neuropsychiatric performance assessments to determine whether evacuation of spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) reduces the risk of later cognitive decline in the ageing brain.

Methods And Analysis: This study will compare rates of cognitive decline under two treatment strategies for ICH. The first strategy is the use of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) with similar techniques as performed in (1) the Minimally Invasive Surgery plus rt-PA in the Treatment of Intracerebral haemorrhage Evacuation phase III (MISTIE III) trial, (2) the Early MiNimally-invasive Removal of IntraCerebral Haemorrhage (ENRICH) trial and (3) a single-centre cohort of consecutively treated patients with MIS.

Introduction: The extent and associated reasons or characteristics related to patients presenting to hospital prior with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) are unknown.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study analyzed the Nationwide Readmission Database from 2018 to 2020 to evaluate hospitalizations within 30 days preceding a hospitalization with the diagnosis of STEMI in order to determine how often this occurs and what are the causes and factors associated with the recent admission.

Results: There were 1,355,765 hospital admissions with a diagnosis of STEMI and 54,545 (4.

Introduction: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we rapidly implemented a plasma coordination center, within two months, to support transfusion for two outpatient randomized controlled trials. The center design was based on an investigational drug services model and a Food and Drug Administration-compliant database to manage blood product inventory and trial safety.

Methods: A core investigational team adapted a cloud-based platform to randomize patient assignments and track inventory distribution of control plasma and high-titer COVID-19 convalescent plasma of different blood groups from 29 donor collection centers directly to blood banks serving 26 transfusion sites.
