A brief screening measure of adolescent risk behavior.

This study examined the factor structure and reliability of a brief but comprehensive measure, the adolescent risk inventory (ARI), designed to assess adolescent risk behaviors and attitudes. Measures assessing demographics and risk behaviors were administered to 134 youth (ages 12-19) in psychiatric treatment. A confirmatory factor analysis of the four attitude scales (HIV Anxiety, HIV Prevention Self-Efficacy, General Distress, and General Risk) revealed excellent goodness of fit statistics.

Several derivatives of naphthol[1,2-b]imidazo[1',2'-d]-1,4-thiazine and -1,4-thiazepine and imidazo[1',2'-4,5]-1,4-thiazino[3,2-c]quinoline and -1,4-thiazepino[3,2-c] quinoline have been synthesized. These compounds and other imidazo[2,1-d][1,5]benzothiazepine derivatives, previously synthesized, have been tested for their possible pharmacological activities. One of these substances displayed inhibitory activity on CNS, others showed an appreciable antiinflammatory effect.

Weaning from mechanical ventilation: adjunctive use of inspiratory muscle resistive training.

We used inspiratory resistive training (IRT) in an effort to improve the respiratory muscle endurance of 27 patients with respiratory failure who had failed repeated weaning attempts using standard techniques. Seven patients had primary neuromuscular diseases; the other 20 had primary lung diseases. All patients had stable respiratory failure, without gross malnutrition or electrolyte disorders.
