Auriculotherapy in prevention of migraine attacks: an open randomized trial.

Use of auriculotherapy to prevent episodic migraine pain has seldom been reported. The aim of this open study was to show that three sessions of auriculotherapy, 1 month apart, using semi-permanent needles decrease frequency and intensity of an attack in patients presenting episodic migraine. A total of 90 patients were randomized to the treatment group (AUR group,  = 58) or the control group (C group,  = 32).

Specific immunotherapy in allergic rhinitis.

Allergic rhinitis is a common condition, with significant impact on quality of life depending on severity and quality of control. Allergen-specific immunotherapy (allergen-SIT) is the only known treatment able to alter the natural course of allergic rhinitis. Although well known to allergologists, it has yet to be fully adopted by the ENT community.

French Otorhinolaryngology Society guidelines for day-case nasal surgery.

Objectives: The French Otorhinolaryngology Society (SFORL) set up a work group to draw up a consensus document on day-case surgery in four rhinologic procedures: endoscopic middle meatal antrostomy (French National Health Insurance (CCAM) code GBPE001), septoplasty (GAMA007), and reduction of nasal bone fracture using a direct approach (LAEA007) and using a closed technique (LAEP002).

What Is Already Known About This Subject: Determining bacterial aetiology of acute sinusitis is difficult without employing invasive procedures. Most episodes of acute sinusitis resolve spontaneously. Antibiotics have demonstrated efficacy for the treatment of acute bacterial sinusitis in clinical trials yet little is known of their effectiveness in real-life treatment settings.

[Advantages of the L-menthol test in assessing chronic nasal obstruction].

Objectives: In normal and anosmic patients, l-menthol inhalation is responsible for the subjective sensation of increased nasal permeability, related to a stimulation of the internal nasal nerve (branch of trigeminal nerve) endings connected with cold pressor receptors. At present, routine assessment of nasal obstruction does not include the l-menthol test. The aim of this case report was to show the advantages of this test in chronic nasal obstruction evaluation.
