Background: Delineation of lumpectomy cavity for whole breast radiation therapy after breast conserving surgery can be challenging because of poor visualization of the cavity. The use of surgical clips on lumpectomy cavity walls has been suggested as an effective and low-cost method to improve the accuracy and consistency of lumpectomy cavity delineation.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-three eligible female breast cancer patients who were treated with lumpectomy and adjuvant radiation therapy were recruited for this study.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) influences clinical target volume (CTV) selection in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and head and neck squamous cell cancer (HNSCC).
  • Eight experienced radiation oncologists manually contoured target volumes based on CT alone and with PET-CT findings, examining whether the use of PET-CT changed treatment plans or affected dosages to critical organs.
  • Results showed that PET-CT significantly changed CTV selection for about 43.7% of patients, revealing a statistically significant increase in target volumes for HNSCC cases but not for NSCLC cases, along with some differences in radiation dose to parotid glands.

Currently, the quality and accuracy of the aggregate of this clinical information is unclear. The objectives of the present study were to evaluate the completeness and quality of clinical information available to oncologists managing rectal cancer.

Palliative radiotherapy (PRT) can improve quality of life for people dying of cancer. Variation in the delivery of PRT by factors unrelated to need may indicate that not all patients who may benefit from PRT receive it. In this study, 13,494 adults who died of cancer between 2000 and 2005 in Nova Scotia, Canada, were linked to radiotherapy records.
