Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and all sexually and gender diverse (LGBTQ+) youth with HIV face multiple barriers to progression along the HIV care continuum. We searched PubMed, PsycInfo, clinicaltrials.gov, and the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Interventions for interventions focused on improving linkage to care, retention in care, adherence to antiretroviral therapy, or viral suppression (VS) among LGBTQ+ youth with HIV in the United States.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the degeneration of the corticospinal tract (CST) and corpus callosum (CC) in motor neuron disease patients using diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI).
  • It involved 27 patients and 33 healthy controls, utilizing MRI and clinical assessments to analyze differences in brain microstructure and disease correlation.
  • Results showed significant differences in diffusion metrics between patients and controls, indicating potential use of DKI as a biomarker for cerebral degeneration in conditions like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Unlabelled: While immunotherapies such as immune checkpoint blockade and adoptive T-cell therapy improve survival for a subset of human malignancies, many patients fail to respond. Phagocytes including dendritic cells (DC), monocytes, and macrophages (MF) orchestrate innate and adaptive immune responses against tumors. However, tumor-derived factors may limit immunotherapy effectiveness by altering phagocyte signal transduction, development, and activity.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the structural and neurochemical factors affecting motor cortex connectivity in ALS patients compared to healthy controls.
  • 52 ALS patients and 52 matched controls underwent various imaging techniques to analyze brain connectivity and motor function.
  • Results show that ALS patients had reduced connectivity in the primary motor cortex and altered neurochemical markers, correlating with difficulties in motor tasks like foot tapping.
  • The findings suggest that neurochemical indicators, such as N-acetyl aspartate levels, could serve as valuable markers for assessing motor cortex connectivity impairments in ALS.

Article Synopsis
  • Clinicians across various medical fields will likely encounter transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) youth, making it important for them to understand how to affirm these individuals in care.
  • Gender-affirming therapy includes recognizing preferred names and pronouns, and the transition process can vary greatly among patients, potentially involving both medical and nonmedical interventions.
  • Medical treatments for gender transition can affect physical health aspects like growth and fertility, so clinicians should inform patients and families about known risks while collaborating on personalized treatment plans.
