The incidence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in patients with laryngopharyngeal symptoms is greater than expect. A prospective study was performed to investigate the incidence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) in patients with laryngopharyngeal symptoms. Laryngologic evaluation with nasopharyngeal and laryngeal endoscopy and gastroenterologic evaluation with esophagogastroduodenoscopy including measurement of pH value were performed in 46 patients.

Modern computers and their implementation have enabled the development of software based on mathematical computations, which analyse the parameters of voice signals in real time, as well as in the spectral and capstral domains. A software system written on the basis of specific methods and algorithms for pathological voice analysis allows the evaluation of: to D; PPQ, APQ, D S, D DISS, HNR, DH and GQ. The system was tested (using the vowel "a") on 900 workers at the Neftochim and Devnya chemical refineries in Bulgaria, exposed to irritating gases (NOx, SOx, etc.

A low cost microcomputer system for analysis of the voice of patients with laryngeal diseases is proposed. The system realizes an evaluation of the following speech parameters affected by laryngeal disease: voice degree of hoarseness; pitch period (T0); pitch period perturbations; degree of subharmonic components; and number of the stops in T0 generation during sustained vowel phonation. Other nonacoustic parameters concerning the patient's status are input into the computer using the keyboard.
