A transistor model for the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator.

In this paper we present a transistor circuit model for cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) that seeks to map the functional form of CFTR both in wild type and mutants. The circuit architecture is configured so that the function, and as much as possible the form, faithfully represents what is known about CFTR from cryo-electron microscopy and molecular dynamics. The model is a mixed analog-digital topology with an AND gate receiving the input from two separate ATP-nucleotide-binding domain binding events.

Making the case for using financial indicators in local public health agencies.

The strength of the public health infrastructure determines the ability of local public health agencies to respond to emergencies and provide essential services. Organizational and systems capacity measures and assessments are important components of the public health infrastructure. Hospitals and governments have a long tradition of using financial indicators to assess fiscal and operational activities.

Dissemination of research in clinical nursing journals.

Aim: The purposes of the study were to describe the extent of research, clinical and evidence-based practice articles published in clinical nursing journals and to explore the communication of research and practice knowledge in the clinical nursing literature using citation analysis.

Background: For nursing research to have an impact on clinical practice and build evidence for practice, findings from research must transfer into the clinical practice literature. By analysing the extent of research published in clinical nursing journals, the citations in those articles, and other characteristics of the nursing literature, we can learn more about the linkages between research and practice in nursing.

Nearly isotropic photonic bandgap structures in two dimensions.

It is suggested that a material with a novel spatial dielectric distribution can exhibit a bandgap that is approximately independent of propagation angle. This independence is accomplished by development of the dielectric constant from reflection vectors of equal strength that are ideally equispaced in angle.
