High concentrations of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) have been linked to diseases, including diabetic complications. The pathophysiological effects of AGEs are mainly due to oxidative stress and inflammatory processes. Among the proteins most affected by glycation are albumin, the most abundant circulating protein, and collagen, which has a long biological half-life and is abundant in the extracellular matrix.

Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory cutaneous disease characterized by elevated levels of inflammatory cytokines and adipokine Lipocalin-2 (LCN-2). Recently, natural plant-based products have been studied as new antipsoriatic compounds. We investigate the ability of a leaf extract of the marine plant (POE) to inhibit psoriatic dermatitis in C57BL/6 mice treated with Imiquimod (IMQ).

The purpose of the study was to detect Hard Exudates (HE) and classify Disorganization of Retinal Inner Layers (DRIL) implementing a Deep Learning (DL) system on optical coherence tomography (OCT) images of eyes with diabetic macular edema (DME). We collected a dataset composed of 442 OCT images on which we annotated 6847 HE and the presence of DRIL. A complex operational pipeline was defined to implement data cleaning and image transformations, and train two DL models.

Patients in intensive care are exposed to the risk of microparticle infusion via extracorporeal lines and the resulting complications. A possible source of microparticle release could be the extracorporeal circuit used in blood purification techniques, such as continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Disposable components of CRRT circuits, such as replacement bags and circuit tubing, might release microparticles such as salt crystals produced by precipitation in replacement bags and plastic microparticles produced by spallation.
