Understanding communication among microorganisms through the array of signal molecules and establishing controlled signal transfer between different species is a major goal of the future of biotechnology, and controlled multispecies bioreactor cultivations will open a wide range of applications. In this study, we used two quorum-sensing peptides from - namely, the competence and sporulation factor (CSF) and (PhrF)-to establish a controlled interkingdom communication system between prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The multiple cognitive, somatic, and behavioral changes following head injuries can result in expressive language difficulties that may not be resolved quickly. This paper explores the traumatic brain injury and post-concussive syndrome artwork created by an art therapist and the child of an art therapist, making the invisible neurological consequences of head injuries visible. Our first-person and caregiver perspectives offer examples of visual arts-based communication between patients, health professionals, and family members.

The present structure-activity relationship study investigates the development of novel chemosensitizers targeting therapy-resistant cancer stem cells (CSCs). We used 4'-((2-propyl-1-benzo[]imidazole-1-yl)methyl)-[1,1'-biphenyl]-2-carboxylic acid, derived from the angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker telmisartan, as a lead structure, demonstrating that the biphenyl moiety is essential for chemosensitizing activity. Introducing a methyl carboxylate or carboxamide instead of the COOH-group significantly enhanced this effect, leading to the development of highly potent compounds.

Background: Apart from fusions and the common mutations, targetable molecular alterations are irrelevant for adjuvant treatment decision making in early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This retrospective analysis aimed to investigate if there is a difference in recurrence-free survival in stage I-III NSCLC harboring druggable molecular alterations compared to subtypes without targetable molecular alterations.

Methods: All consecutive patients who underwent surgery with curative intent for NSCLC (stage I-III) with targetable mutations between January 2015 and December 2020 at three Austrian institutions were identified and compared with tumors without targetable molecular alterations.
