Does the Naı̈ve Mode-Coupling Power Law Divergence Provide an Objective Determination of the Crossover Temperature in Glass Formation Behavior?

The glass formation temperature range is commonly divided into a weakly supercooled regime at higher temperatures and a deeply supercooled regime at lower temperatures, with a change in the physical mechanisms that govern dynamics often postulated to occur at the crossover between these regimes. This crossover temperature is widely determined based on a fit of relaxation time vs temperature data to a power law divergence form predicted by the naı̈ve mode coupling theory (MCT). Here, we show, based on simulation data spanning polymeric, small molecule organic, metallic, and inorganic glass formers, that this approach does not yield an objective measure of a crossover temperature.

Human striatal progenitor cells that contain inducible safeguards and overexpress BDNF rescue Huntington's disease phenotypes.

Huntington's disease (HD) is an autosomal-dominant neurodegenerative disorder characterized by striatal atrophy. Reduced trophic support due to decreased striatal levels of neurotrophins (NTs), mainly brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), contributes importantly to HD pathogenesis; restoring NTs has significant therapeutic potential. Human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) offer a scalable platform for NT delivery but have potential safety risks including teratoma formation.

Use of Allied Health Services in Rural Northern Victoria, Australia.

Objective: Little is known about the socio-demographic factors associated with the use of allied health services in rural Australia. The objective of this study was to determine which factors were associated with the use of various modes of allied health in a region of Northern Victoria.

Methods: This is a secondary analysis of the Crossroads-II population health study.

Burnout in modern-day health care: Where are we, and how can we markedly reduce it? A meta-narrative review from the EUREKA* project.

Background: Burnout is disrupting the health care workforce, threatening the livelihoods of health care workers and the probability of safe and effective patient care.

Purposes: The aims of this study were to describe the evolution and gaps in burnout research and identify next steps to advance the field and reduce burnout.

Methodology/approach: We formed a learning community of burnout scholars and Chief Wellness Officers, sought recent review articles for a meta-narrative synthesis of themes on health care worker burnout, and conducted focus groups with learning community members.
