Background: Milk is a rich source of natural growth factors that may support oral tissue homeostasis and wound healing. We had shown earlier that blocking TGF-β receptor type I kinase with the inhibitor SB431542 abolished the expression of IL11 and other genes in human gingival fibroblasts exposed to the aqueous fraction of milk. Our aim was to identify the entire signature of TGF-β receptor type I kinase-dependent genes regulated by the aqueous fraction of human milk.

Dust storms can adversely impact both human health and the environment, but they also impact transportation infrastructure, agriculture, and industry, occasionally severely. A quantitative understanding of the hydro-environmental factors that influence the occurrence of agricultural drought events would enable more strategic climate change adaptation and drought management plans. Practical drought hazard mapping remains challenging due to possible exclusion of the most pertinent drought drivers, and to the use of inadequate predictive models that cannot describe drought adequately. This research aims to develop new approaches to map agricultural drought hazard with state-of-the-art machine learning models, including classification and regression trees (CART), boosted regression trees (BRT), random forests (RF), multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS), flexible discriminant analysis (FDA) and support vector machines (SVM).

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with an increased release of free radicals which play an important role in the manifestation of diabetes and in the progression of diabetic complications. Peroxiredoxins are thought to be essential components of the erythrocyte antioxidative defense. Therefore, we compared peroxiredoxin isoform contents (PRDX1-6 immuno-histochemial stainings) in the erythrocytes of overweight/obese T2DM men (n = 6) and of BMI-matched non-diabetic male control subjects (n = 6).

Cryptosporidium is an important protozoan that cause diarrheal illness in humans and animals. Different species of Cryptosporidium have been reported and it is believed that species characteristics are an important factor to be considered in strategic planning for control.
