The criminal justice system and the media perpetuate the rhetoric of closure, which frames the end of grief for homicide survivors, or murder victims' loved ones, as an attainable goal on their path to healing. Public discourse has also framed the death penalty as justice for survivors. However, little scholarly attention has addressed survivors' experiences and perceptions of closure and justice.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe present case report describes intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms of the biliary tract (IPMN-BT), a rare neoplasm of the biliary tract that is described as the biliary counterpart of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms of the pancreas (IPMN-P). The importance of appropriate diagnosis and awareness of the clinical manifestations is highlighted. IPMN-BT has a more favorable prognosis and is easier to resect than other forms of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas; therefore, early and accurate diagnosis is required for planning of the best treatment strategies for this neoplasm.

Mice carrying transgenes for human apolipoprotein E*3-Leiden and cholesteryl ester transfer protein and fed a "Western" diet were studied on the genetic backgrounds of over 100 inbred mouse strains. The mice developed hepatic inflammation and fibrosis that was highly dependent on genetic background, with vast differences in the degree of fibrosis.

An HPV E6/E7 mRNA in situ hybridization (ISH) assay covering 18 common high-risk types ("HR-RISH," aka HR-HPV RNA18 ISH) has not been extensively studied in the anogenital tract or validated on automated technology. We herein compare HR-RISH to DNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR), p16 immunohistochemistry, and a previously available HPV DNA ISH assay in HPV-related anogenital and head and neck (H&N) neoplasia.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTo identify genetic and environmental factors contributing to the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, we examined liver steatosis and related clinical and molecular traits in more than 100 unique inbred mouse strains, which were fed a diet rich in fat and carbohydrates. A >30-fold variation in hepatic TG accumulation was observed among the strains. Genome-wide association studies revealed three loci associated with hepatic TG accumulation.
