The evaluation of transcription factor binding site prediction tools in human and Arabidopsis genomes.

Background: The precise prediction of transcription factor binding sites (TFBSs) is pivotal for unraveling the gene regulatory networks underlying biological processes. While numerous tools have emerged for in silico TFBS prediction in recent years, the evolving landscape of computational biology necessitates thorough assessments of tool performance to ensure accuracy and reliability. Only a limited number of studies have been conducted to evaluate the performance of TFBS prediction tools comprehensively.

Electron transport through a (terpyridine)ruthenium metallo-surfactant containing a redox-active aminocatechol derivative.

Aiming to develop a new class of metallosurfactants with unidirectional electron transfer properties, a (terpyridine) ruthenium complex containing a semiquinone derivative L, namely [Ru(L)(L)Cl]PF (1), was synthesized and structurally characterized as a solid and in solution. The electronic and redox behaviour of 1 was studied experimentally as well as by means of DFT methods, and is indicative of significant orbital mixing and overlap between metal and ligands. The complex forms stable Pockels-Langmuir films at the air-water interface and allows for the formation of thin films onto gold electrodes to prepare nanoscale Au|LB 1|Au junctions for current-voltage (/) analysis.

A comparative study on fatty acid profile in selected vessels of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).

Atherosclerosis is one of the leading non-communicable diseases in Sri Lanka. Analysis of fatty acid composition in blood vessels is important in understanding the development of atherosclerosis. Here, analyses of fatty acid profiles in major arteries which are commonly used in Coronary Artery Bypass Graft surgery (CABG) were subjected to investigation.

The sustained adverse impact of COVID-19 pandemic on mental health among pregnant women in Sri Lanka: a reassessment during the second wave.

Objective: To study the change in trend of antenatal mental health and associated factors among a cohort of pregnant women during the second wave of COVID-19 using Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Previous study using the same scale, during the first wave reported a higher prevalence of anxiety and depression.

Results: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out at the two large maternity hospitals in Colombo, Sri Lanka: Castle Street Hospital for Women (CSHW) and De Soysa Hospital for Women (DSHW).

Introduction: Medicinal utility of lichens is ascribed to the presence of various secondary metabolites of low molecular weight and they have been used in traditional medicine including Ayurveda in the treatment of wounds and skin disorders. Despite the urgent need to effectively address the antibiotic resistance worldwide, the discovery of new antibacterial drugs has declined in the recent past. This emphasizes the increasing importance of investigating and developing new classes of antibiotics that can withstand antibiotic resistance.
