Occurrence of Extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) and Carbapenemase-producing Escherichia coli isolated from Childhood Diarrhoea in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Introduction: Extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing pathogenic E. coli is a global public health issue, especially in sub-Saharan African countries such as Cameroon. It contributes to increase significantly hospital length of stay, morbidity, mortality and economic costs because of treatment failures.

Determinants of the haemoglobin level in patients with sickle cell disease living in sub-Saharan Africa: Major impact of the country of residence and independent effects of leucocyte and platelet counts and haemolysis.

The degree of anaemia in sickle cell disease (SCD) is a well-known contributor to morbidity and mortality. We aimed to explore the factors affecting haemoglobin (Hb) level in African SCD patients, considering haemolysis biomarkers (LDH and bilirubin level, and reticulocyte count), leucocyte and platelet counts and socio-demographic characteristics (gender, age group, country of residence and BMI). The research was part of the CADRE multinational cohort and involved 3699 SCD patients living in Mali, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon and Cameroon: 2936 SS/Sβ0, 587 SC and 176 Sβ + patients with median Hb level of 8, 11.

Pubertal patterns in children with sickle cell anemia: A case-control study in Cameroon.

Background: Puberty may be impaired in children with sickle cell anemia (SCA). Therefore, we aimed to explore the clinical and hormonal features of puberty in Cameroonian children.

Methods: In a case-control study, we included 64 children aged 8-18 years with SCA matched to healthy controls.

Initiating the first rheumatic heart disease clinic in Cameroon: A descriptive study.

Background And Aim: Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is a significant cause of heart failure in sub-Saharan Africa. The causes of death from RHD are multiple, many of which can be prevented with appropriate follow-up of patients and effective secondary prophylaxis. An RHD Clinic was initiated to attempt a solution in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Impact and projections of the COVID-19 epidemic on attendance and routine vaccinations at a pediatric referral hospital in Cameroon.

Background: At the beginning of March 2020, Cameroon experienced its first cases of infection with the new coronavirus (SARS-COV-2). Very quickly, there was a drop in the rate of hospital attendance. The purpose of this study was to observe the variations in the uptake of pediatric consultations and vaccinations in a pediatric hospital.
