The genome duplication program is affected by multiple factors in vivo, including developmental cues, genotoxic stress, and aging. Here, we monitored DNA replication initiation dynamics in regenerating livers of young and old mice after partial hepatectomy to investigate the impact of aging. In young mice, the origin firing sites were well defined; the majority were located 10-50 kb upstream or downstream of expressed genes, and their position on the genome was conserved in human cells.

Introduction: In acute obstructive common bile duct (CBD) stones endoscopic retrograde cholangiography for CBD stone removal before cholecystectomy (ChE) ('ERC-first') is the gold standard of treatment. Intraoperative antegrade balloon dilatation of the duodenal papilla during ChE with flushing of CBD stones to the duodenum ('ABD-during-ChE') may be an alternative 'one-stop-shop' treatment option. However, a comparison of outcomes of the 'ABD-during-ChE' technique and the'ERC-first' approach has never been performed.

Glued suture-less peritoneum closure in laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair reduces acute postoperative pain.

Inguinal hernia repair is performed more than 20 million times per annum, representing a significant health and economic burden. Over the last three decades, significant technical advances have started to reduce the invasiveness of these surgeries, which translated to better recovery and reduced costs. Here we bring forward an innovative surgical technique using a biodegradable cyanoacrylate glue instead of a traumatic suture to close the peritoneum, which is a highly innervated tissue layer, at the end of endoscopy hernia surgery.
