When mice run, activity in their primary visual cortex (V1) is strongly modulated. This observation has altered conceptions of a brain region assumed to be a passive image processor. Extensive work has followed to dissect the circuits and functions of running-correlated modulation.

To compare pregnancy-related mortality ratios (PRMRs) associated with COVID-19 by race/ethnicity, by region of residence, and in states with and without Medicaid expansion. We used 2020-2021 data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Wide-Ranging Online Data for Epidemiologic Research in our analysis. A baculovirus had been previously identified in larvae of the zebra caterpillar, Melanchra (formerly Ceramica) picta Harris. To further characterize this virus, two isolates, Melanchra picta nucleopolyhedrovirus-185 (MepiNPV-185) and MepiNPV-600, were fully sequenced. Analysis of the genome sequences revealed that both isolates are members of alphabaculovirus species Alphabaculovirus maconfiguratae, along with alphabaculoviruses of the bertha armyworm, Mamestra configurata Walker.

Unlabelled: Reducing growth and limiting metabolism are strategies that allow bacteria to survive exposure to environmental stress and antibiotics. During infection, uropathogenic (UPEC) may enter a quiescent state that enables them to reemerge after the completion of successful antibiotic treatment. Many clinical isolates, including the well-characterized UPEC strain CFT073, also enter a metabolite-dependent, quiescent state that is reversible with cues, including peptidoglycan-derived peptides and amino acids.

Background: Children with chronic diseases have been reported to participate in less regular physical activity (PA) than peers without chronic diseases; and less than recommended in guidelines. Sheffield Children's Foundation Trust (SCFT) is an Active Hospitals pilot site, exploring options to facilitate PA for all children. One option is collaboration with Junior Parkrun: a free, weekly 2 km running event for children.
