Overtriage of transfers to the pediatric trauma center: the importance of minor head injury.

Objective: Accurate triage of minor head injuries remains a challenge for mature trauma systems. More than one-third of trauma transfers are overtriaged, and minor head injuries predominate. Overtriage is inefficient, wasteful of resources, and burdensome for families.

Mechanism of DNA origami folding elucidated by mesoscopic simulations.

Many experimental and computational efforts have sought to understand DNA origami folding, but the time and length scales of this process pose significant challenges. Here, we present a mesoscopic model that uses a switchable force field to capture the behavior of single- and double-stranded DNA motifs and transitions between them, allowing us to simulate the folding of DNA origami up to several kilobases in size. Brownian dynamics simulations of small structures reveal a hierarchical folding process involving zipping into a partially folded precursor followed by crystallization into the final structure.

Climate-influenced vector-borne diseases in Africa: a call to empower the next generation of African researchers for sustainable solutions.

We look at the link between climate change and vector-borne diseases in low- and middle-income countries in Africa. The large endemicity and escalating threat of diseases such as malaria and arboviral diseases, intensified by climate change, disproportionately affects vulnerable communities globally. We highlight the urgency of prioritizing research and development, advocating for robust scientific inquiry to promote adaptation strategies, and the vital role that the next generation of African research leaders will play in addressing these challenges.

Recurrent Obturator Hernia: A Rare Entity.

Obturator hernias are rare with an incidence of less than 1% of all hernias and are most common in frail, elderly females. They are difficult to diagnose and even more difficult to repair. They often present with a small bowel obstruction from the incarcerated bowel.

Neoadjuvant trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) with response-directed definitive therapy in early stage HER2-positive breast cancer: a phase II study protocol (SHAMROCK study).

Background: The current standard of care in the neoadjuvant setting for high-risk HER2-positive (HER2 +) breast cancer is to combine systemic chemotherapy with dual HER2 blockade, trastuzumab and pertuzumab. Targeted therapies have significantly improved outcomes for patients with HER2-positive breast cancer. To improve treatment-associated toxicity, chemotherapy-sparing approaches are currently being investigated.
