Objective Heart failure (HF) is an important underrecognized complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Recent literature and recommendations support screening for HF among T2DM people attending the outpatient department (OPD) in non-emergency settings using a biomarker. The present study is a retrospective cross-sectional study that assesses the prevalence of screen positivity (S+) for undiagnosed HF among T2DM people (with normal electrocardiogram (ECG) and no history of heart disease) attending the OPD at a tertiary care center in India using N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP).

Article Synopsis
  • Gout is a painful form of arthritis that can lead to more severe health issues when not properly treated; Pegloticase is a drug used to treat patients who do not respond to standard gout treatments.
  • A study analyzed data from over 400 patients with chronic uncontrolled gout and found that their condition worsened significantly in the two years leading up to starting pegloticase therapy, with increases in gout-related symptoms and healthcare usage.
  • The findings suggest that identifying and treating patients sooner could help reduce the complications and healthcare needs associated with uncontrolled gout.

Background: Pediatric dental procedures like pulpotomy and pulpectomy are commonly performed to treat pulp-related dental issues in primary teeth. The choice of instrumentation, such as traditional rotary instruments or laser technology, can impact the oral microbiota. This study aims to compare the changes in oral microbiota following pulpotomy/pulpectomy in pediatric patients treated with traditional rotary instruments versus laser technology.

Kojic acid derivatives are useful in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. The current investigation focuses on the search for a safe and environmentally friendly newer whole-cell biocatalyst for the synthesis of kojic acid derivative especially 2-amino-6-(hydroxymethyl)-8-oxo-4-phenyl-4,8-dihydropyrano[3,2-b]pyran-3-carbonitrile (APhCN). In this context, a total of six cultures were isolated from fecal samples of infants and subjected to probiotic characterization followed by screening as whole cell biocatalyst (WCB).

Drug delivery through electroporation could be highly beneficial for the treatment of different types of diseased tissues within the human body. In this work, a mathematical model of reversible tissue electroporation is presented for injecting drug into the diseased cells. The model emphasizes the tissue boundary where the drug is injected as a point source.
