Cardiac sex-difference functional studies have centred on measurements of twitch force and Ca dynamics. The energy expenditures from these two cellular processes: activation (Ca handling) and contraction (cross-bridge cycling), have not been assessed, and compared, between sexes. Whole-heart studies measuring oxygen consumption do not directly measure the energy expenditure of these activation-contraction processes.

We compared the frequency of memory T-cell populations in breastmilk between mothers of infants who acquired breastmilk HCMV (transmitters) and those with uninfected infants (non-transmitters). Non-transmitter moms had an increased frequency of CD8+ effector memory T-cells (Tem) in their breastmilk.

The endosomal sorting complexes required for transport (ESCRT) pathway is composed of a series of protein complexes that are essential for sorting cargo through the endosome. In neurons, the ESCRT pathway is a key mediator of many cellular pathways that regulate neuronal morphogenesis as well as synaptic growth and function. The ESCRT-0 complex, consisting of HGS (hepatocyte growth factor-regulated tyrosine kinase substrate) and STAM (signal-transducing adaptor molecule), acts as a gate keeper to this pathway, ultimately determining the fate of the endosomal cargo.
