Introduction: This study aimed to assess current practice in general x-ray rooms in three Irish hospitals. Evaluating the extent to which x-ray protocols are currently standardised can be considered as a preparatory step towards the larger goal of implementing optimisation in a diagnostic radiology department.

Methods: Data on various aspects of general x-ray room exposures was manually collected and analysed to highlight variations with exposure factors in use and workload distribution across each of the ten hospital x-ray rooms included in the study.

Background: Childhood represents a critical period of nutritional risk in the programming of later chronic disease. Few longitudinal studies have explored repeated measures of nutrition throughout the first decade of life in relation to preteen cardiometabolic outcomes.

Objectives: This research aimed to explore associations of early feeding practices (human milk exposure and duration and timing of introduction to solids) and childhood dietary quality and inflammatory scores (at 5 and 9-11 y and change during childhood) on preteen cardiometabolic outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Recording holograms with large diffraction angles is hard without prisms, but using a shorter recording wavelength helps reduce the difficulty of beam angles.* -
  • The study enhances a model to compare transmission and reflection recording methods, revealing that some reflection recordings are easier with a longer recording wavelength.* -
  • Experimental tests using 532 nm wavelength on a specific photopolymer successfully demonstrate the model's predictions, showing effective coupling with blue light.*

Background: Due to variations in perforator vasculature, deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap preoperative imaging can minimize operative time required to locate the most suitable perforators. Dedicated computed tomography angiography (CTA) has been the gold standard; however, many patients have already undergone a staging computed tomography (CT) per oncologic workup. The benefits from CTA may also be realized with a staging CT or CT with IV contrast.
