The scarcity of high-resolution paleoecological records during this period, however, limits our understanding of the environmental effects of this pivotal event, particularly the importance of using fire as a tool for habitat modification. We use two paleoecological records from the Bass Strait islands to identify the initiation of anthropogenic landscape transformation associated with ancestral Palawa/Pakana land use.

Although often nonpathogenic as adults, nematodes within this genus are capable of causing widespread disease throughout the host while in a larval stage, during which time larvae migrate throughout the body in a process termed larva migrans. Larvae are also capable of surviving within host tissues in an encysted arrested stage, without immune clearance by the host.
