Heat-related risk at Paris 2024: a proposal for classification and review of International Federations policies.

Several International Federations (IFs) employ specific policies to protect athletes' health from the danger of heat. Most policies rely on the measurement of thermal indices such as the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) to estimate the risk of heat-related illness. This review summarises the policies implemented by the 32 IFs of the 45 sports included in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Modelling of Blood Lactate Time-Courses During Exercise and/or the Subsequent Recovery: Limitations and Few Perspectives.

Because lactate is an important metabolic intermediate and a signalling molecule between/within cells/organs, it appears essential to be able to describe the kinetics of this central molecule, during and/or after physical exercise. The present study aimed to confront three models and their approaches [Freund and co-workers (F&co), Beneke and co-workers (B&co), and Quittmann and co-workers (Q&co)] to investigate the lactate exchange (γ) and removal (γ) abilities (min) during and/or after exercise. Nine healthy male subjects performed 3- and 6-min easy, moderate, and heavy exercise.

Paediatric teams in front of childhood obesity: A qualitative study within the STOP project.

Introduction: Understanding the underlying factors that influence the approach to overweight and obesity in children is basic to best support families searching a solution to this important public health problem.

Objective: To assess attitudes and feelings of paediatric staff in addressing overweight and childhood obesity to parents, exploring perceived barriers and facilitators, for an effective care.

Participants And Method: Qualitative study by means of individual semi-structured questionnaires of paediatric staff (paediatricians and paediatrician nurses; n = 57; 68% female) of primary health care centres and hospitals in Mallorca.

Miniaturized FISH for screening of onco-hematological malignancies.

Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) represents a major step in the analysis of chromosomal aberrations in cancer. It allows the precise detection of specific rearrangements, both for diagnostic and prognostic purposes. Here we present a miniaturized FISH method performed on fresh and fixed hematological samples.

Pneumococcal sacroiliitis in a 4-year-old boy.

Pyogenic sacroiliitis is an extremely rare manifestation of invasive pneumococcal disease in childhood as only four cases have been described to date. We report and comment on a case of pneumococcal sacroiliitis in a 4-year-old boy. This patient was diagnosed promptly on account of the symptom triad of fever, buttock pain, and limping gait, along with characteristic findings in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and bone scans, and recovered fully after 6 weeks of antimicrobial therapy.
