In the post-operative management of surgery of the knee complicated by stiffness, the results of manipulation under anaesthesia and percutaneous release of adhesions under arthroscopy have been compared in two groups of twenty and twenty-four patients. The two groups were identical in age, 32 years, in the cause, which was ligamentous surgery in 85 per cent and in their level of activity. Arthroscopic release was performed in 90 per cent of cases under continuous peridural anaesthesia whilst manipulations were performed under general anaesthesia in 75 per cent of cases.

This series comprises 74 post-operative infections of fractures of the upper end of the femur, 47 associated with internal fixation and 27 with prostheses. The organisms were different in the 13 men, with a predominance of gram-positive cocci, from those in the 61 women in which the significantly high proportion of gram-negative organisms seemed to be due frequent to soiling of urinary origin. In the 47 internal fixations, local wound toilet gave 29 successful results with union in the normal time.

The results of the examinations allow, in spite of individual variability, a classification of the animals into different types of regulation by consideration of the biorhythm. The assessment of the individual type of regulation in correlation to the biorhythmic structure of the organism is of basic significance for the evaluation of its capacity of performance and adapation.
