Biological Activity of Natural and Synthetic Peptides as Anticancer Agents.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and death worldwide, making it a serious global health concern. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgical treatment are the most used conventional therapeutic approaches, although they show several side effects that limit their effectiveness. For these reasons, the discovery of new effective alternative therapies still represents an enormous challenge for the treatment of tumour diseases.

Evaluation of a Risk Awareness Perception Training Program on Novice Teen Driver Behavior at Left-Turn Intersections.

Collisions at left turn intersections are among the most prevalent types of teen driver serious crashes, with inadequate surveillance as a key factor. Risk awareness perception training (RAPT) has shown effectiveness in improving hazard anticipation for latent hazards. The goal of this study was to determine if RAPT version 3 (RAPT-3) improved intersection turning behaviors among novice teen drivers when the hazards were not latent and frequent glancing to multiple locations at the intersection was needed.

Willingness to Consider Non-Directed Kidney Donation.

The purpose of the study was to determine whether factors, including knowledge about living kidney donation or acquaintance with a donor or recipient, are related to willingness to consider donating a kidney. Participants were randomly assigned to read (n = 78) or not read (n = 71) educational materials regarding living donation. All participants then completed a living donation knowledge quiz, indicated whether they knew a donor or recipient, and indicated their support for living donation.

Experimental-like helical self-organization in reversed-field pinch modeling.

We report the first nonlinear three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) numerical simulations of the reversed-field pinch (RFP) that exhibit a systematic repetition of quasisingle helicity states with the same dominant mode in between reconnection events. This distinctive feature of experimental self-organized helical RFP plasmas is reproduced in MHD simulations at low dissipation by allowing a helical modulation of the plasma magnetic boundary similar to the experimental one. Realistic mode amplitudes and magnetic topology are also found.

Psychological distress in patients presenting for initial renal transplant evaluation.

The comorbidity of psychological disorders with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) presents challenges for renal transplantation, including increased likelihood of medication noncompliance and poorer quality of life. Estimates of rates and severity of affective and anxiety disorders have varied significantly across studies of renal transplant patients, possibly due in part to variation in the methodology and timing of evaluations. To this point, few researchers have examined the psychological condition of patients who are newly referred for renal transplantation.
