Article Synopsis
  • Sudden Unexpected Deaths in Infancy (SUDI) includes various causes of infant deaths in the first year of life, with risk factors like sleeping position and passive smoking, but the impact of environmental chemicals—specifically pesticides—remains unclear.
  • A systematic review of 92 studies identified 17 relevant studies on the link between SUDI and pesticide exposure, showing mixed results, with some suggesting a connection between SIDS and parental occupational exposure.
  • The overall evidence is inconclusive, highlighting the need for more rigorous and modern epidemiological research to better understand the potential association.

Objective: Shiitake mushrooms () are an edible fungus, initially grown in Japan and China that are increasingly marketed in Europe. We previously presented 15 shiitake dermatitis cases reported to Poison Control Centres (PCCs) in France from January 2000 to December 2013. The aim of this study was to describe changes in the number of shiitake dermatitis cases since 2014, and to better describe the clinical characteristics and risk factors of this reaction.

Article Synopsis
  • - In June 2019, a case of paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) was discovered in France, highlighting potential undetected instances of shellfish-related neurotoxic poisoning, even when toxin levels were below regulatory limits.
  • - A retrospective study of shellfish poisoning cases from 2012 to 2019 revealed that 22% of 619 cases had neurological symptoms, with 14 suspected to be linked to PSP and one to amnesic shellfish poisoning; blood and urine tests for toxins were not conducted.
  • - The findings prompted French health agencies to create a specific questionnaire and recommend protocols for documenting neurological symptoms after shellfish consumption, including enhanced monitoring of poisoning cases.

Aims: The risk for drug-drug interactions (DDIs) associated with antiseizure drugs (ASDs) used to manage status epilepticus (SE) patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) has been poorly investigated. We aimed to quantify and describe those potential DDIs and determine SE patient risk profiles.

Methods: We conducted an observational bi-centric cohort study including all SE patients admitted to the ICU in the period 2016-2020.
