Purpose: This study compares the objective American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and Adult Comorbidity Evaluation-27 (ACE-27) scores with the subjective Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (ECOG PS) for patient outcome prediction.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed head and neck squamous cell carcinoma patients treated with adjuvant (chemo)radiotherapy at the LMU Munich from June 2008 to June 2015. The study focused on associations between patient outcomes; treatment failures; known risk factors (including human papillomavirus [HPV] status and tumor stage); and the comorbidity indices ECOG-PS, ASA score, and ACE-27.

  • A total of 79 SBRT treatments were analyzed for 29 patients, where deviations from set tolerances (0.7 mm for translation and 0.5° for rotation) were tracked via the ExacTrac Dynamic System.
  • The results indicated that 15% of X-ray image pairs showed significant deviations, with the most notable translational movement reaching up to 2.8 mm and rotations up to 2.6°, highlighting the importance of motion detection for improving patient safety during treatment.

Neonicotinoid-contaminated sugar stores can have both near term and long term effects on honey bees due to their persistence in honey stores. Effects of imidacloprid food stores contaminants were examined in subtropical colonies that experience reduced brood rearing and foraging during overwintering. Colonies were given treatment sugar syrup containing 0 ppb (control), 20 ppb (field relevant), or 100 ppb (above field relevant) imidacloprid over six weeks to simulate contaminated fall nectar.

Punctuated bursts of structural genomic variations (SVs) have been described in various organisms, but their etiology remains incompletely understood. Homologous recombination (HR) is a template-guided mechanism of repair of DNA double-strand breaks and stalled or collapsed replication forks. We recently identified a DNA break amplification and genome rearrangement pathway originating from the endonucleolytic processing of a multi-invasion (MI) DNA joint molecule formed during HR.
