Bi-hormonal islet endocrine cells have been proposed to represent an intermediate state of cellular transdifferentiation, enabling an increase in beta-cell mass in response to severe metabolic stress. Beta-cell plasticity and regenerative capacity are thought to decrease with age. We investigated the ontogeny of bi-hormonal islet endocrine cell populations throughout the human lifespan.

Natural and synthetic biopolymers are gaining popularity in the development of inhaled drug formulations. Their highly tunable properties and ability to sustain drug release allow for the incorporation of attributes not achieved in dry powder inhaler formulations composed only of micronized drugs, standard excipients, and/or carriers. There are multiple physiological barriers to the penetration of inhaled drugs to the epithelial surface, such as the periciliary layer mucus mesh, pulmonary macrophages, and inflammation and mucus compositional changes resulting from respiratory diseases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates CP symmetry violation in the decay of D^{+} particles into K^{-}K^{+}π^{+} using data from proton-proton collisions at a high energy of 13 TeV.
  • A unique model-independent method was employed to analyze the phase-space distributions of D^{+} and D^{-} particles, correcting for any instrumental biases using D_{s}^{+} decays.
  • The findings indicate no significant evidence of CP violation, with a p value of 8.1%, and measure specific CP asymmetry observables, marking this study as the most sensitive search of its kind in multibody decays.

Unlabelled: APC 4099, isolated from bees' gut, has been identified as a promising candidate for food biopreservation. Antimicrobial activity screening revealed a broad-spectrum inhibition potential, ranging from gram-positive pathogenic bacteria to fungi responsible for food spoilage. Genomic analysis identified biosynthetic gene clusters coding for several antimicrobial peptides and secondary metabolites.

Objective: To characterize early physiologic stresses imposed by surgery by applying metabolomic analyses to deeply phenotype pre- and postoperative plasma and urine of patients undergoing elective surgical procedures.

Background: Patients experience perioperative stress through depletion of metabolic fuels. Bowel stasis or injury might allow more microbiome-derived uremic toxins to enter the blood, while the liver and kidney are simultaneously clearing analgesic and anesthetic drugs.
