Estimating public health risks of infectious disease events: A Canadian approach to rapid risk assessment.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for timely, evidence-based rapid risk assessments (RRA) of infectious disease events to inform public health action during rapidly evolving situations with high uncertainty. In 2022, the Public Health Agency of Canada established a coordinated approach to public health risk assessment, including a methodology for qualitative RRA of infectious disease threats.

Objective: To describe the RRA methodology and illustrate its use with examples from different infectious hazards of public health concern.

Effects of Tranexamic Acid on Intraoperative Bleeding and Surgical Field Visualization During Middle Ear Surgery: A Narrative Review.

Tranexamic acid is an antifibrinolytic agent widely used in several surgical procedures to reduce intraoperative bleeding. Intraoperative bleeding is a crucial problem for the ear surgeon, as it prevents good visualization of the surgical field. The aim of this work was to analyze the relevant literature about the use of tranexamic acid in ear surgery.

Active TriCROS: A Simultaneous Stimulation With a (Bi)CROS System and a Hearing Aid in the Worst Ear for Severely Asymmetrical Hearing Loss.

Objective: Severely asymmetrical hearing loss (SAHL) is characterized by a moderately severe or severe hearing loss in one side and normal or mildly impaired controlateral hearing in the other. The Active tri-CROS combines the Contralateral Routing-of-Signal System (CROS, or BiCROS if the best ear is stimulated) and the stimulation of the worst ear by an in-the-canal hearing aid. This study aims to evaluate the benefit of the Active tri-CROS for SAHL patients.
